By
late summer, schools of seatrout and croaker (hardheads) flood
the near shore waters 5-15 miles off Ocean City's coastline. Excited
anglers are quick to take part in this wonderful fishing opportunity
just a short ride from the inlet.
Along with trout and croaker, nearshore bottom fishermen might
also bring home seabass, flounder, trigger fish, mackerel, cobia,
and bluefish. But fishermen aren't the only ones happy to see
the bottom fish show up in such great numbers.
Sharks
also congregate on the schools to get their share of the easy
harvest of tasty fish. Averaging only 3-5 feet in length, these
aren't the monster sharks encountered farther offshore. But what
they lack in over-all size, near shore sharks make up for in quantity,
variety, and light tackle fun. Common shark species include blacktips,
duskies, sharpnose, sandbars, hammerheads, and there's always
a chance of a big thresher. Primarily a catch and release fishery,
near shore shark fishing is a wonderful experience for anglers
of all ages and skill levels.
We're
happy to guide anglers on these wonderful near shore fishing adventures
aboard the FISH FINDER. A typical trip combines shark and bottom
fishing at the same time, providing for almost continual action
with a multitude of species.
These
near shore trips offer late summer and fall anglers some of the
most enjoyable and rewarding fishing opportunities of year.
